Shortly before 02:00AM on Tuesday, 1 January, officers on patrol on West Bay Road were alerted by a member of the public to an altercation taking place at a bar on West Bay Road just south of Seven Mile Public Beach. Upon arrival officers observed a large group of persons outside of the bar and identified a woman who was behaving in a disorderly manner, engaged in an argument with several other people. Officers observed the woman, age 47 of George Town, strike a man known to her in the face and subsequently arrested her on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly and assault ABH. As officers effected the arrest, the man, age 25 of George Town, began behaving in a disorderly manner towards officers and was also arrested on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly. He was later granted bail.
It was later ascertained that the woman had assaulted another woman at the location before officers arrived. The victim suffered various abrasions, along with lacerations to her eyes, and was taken by private vehicle for treatment. The woman who had been arrested earlier was further arrested on suspicion of assault GBH. She has been bailed as investigations continue.
