Drowning in the Rum Point Area

14th February, 2018 Police Headlines

Police and other emergency services were dispatched by the 9-1-1 Communications Centre to a water-related incident in Rum Point, yesterday 12 February, just before 3:25PM. There police learned that a man was found unresponsive after experiencing difficulty while snorkelling in the Rum Point area, North Side.

Police were informed that the man had gone snorkelling with a friend yesterday around 2:30PM, where they were caught in a current. They then experienced difficulties when the current picked up and they were carried further out to sea. The second man lost sight of the victim, and was able to get back to shore himself and raise the alarm.

The police, Fire Services and Paramedics attended the location. A fire officer found the man unresponsive in the water and pulled him ashore, where the victim was administered first aid and transported to the Cayman Islands Hospital. There he was later pronounced dead.

The victim, age 60, was visiting from the United States.
