On 31 December 2024, shortly after 7:15AM, police officers responded to a report of an unresponsive man at a commercial premise on Middle Road in George Town.
The man, who was employed by a waste management company, had arrived at his workplace when the incident took place. He was subsequently pronounced deceased at the scene by the attending doctor and police investigation was launched into the circumstances of the sudden death.
A post-mortem revealed that the deceased had sustained neck compression which was determined to be the cause of death. The incident is believed to have been related to an ongoing family dispute.
On 21 May 2025, the 30-year-old man, who is a relative of the deceased, was arrested and subsequently charged with Murder after forensic evidence linked him to the scene.
He was later found guilty of the murder and was sentenced to life imprisonment with the possibility of parole after serving a minimum of 31 years.
The Office of the DPP has lauded the significant work conducted by the RCIPS, from the initial response through to the thorough and painstaking investigation that contributed to the successful prosecution.
While the sentencing concludes the court proceedings, the RCIPS extends its deepest sympathies to the family of the deceased as they continue to cope with this significant loss.
