Men Charged with Drug Offenses Following Recovery of Vessel in East End, 9 December

9th December, 2021 Police Headlines

At about 8:15AM on Tuesday, 7 December, the 9-1-1 Communications Centre received reports of a vessel on the reef off East End and packages floating in the water. RCIPS Officers from the Eastern Districts attended the landside area of the sighting and the Cayman Islands Coast Guard and police helicopter made their way to assist. A number of packages of ganja were recovered from the water and within the vessel, with a total weight of 194lbs. The vessel was also recovered.

Two men, both Jamaican Nationals, aged 68 and 56, were arrested on suspicion of illegal landing and being concerned in the importation of ganja. The men claimed a third crew member was aboard the vessel and had also made it ashore. However, efforts to locate him following the recovery of the vessel and packages proved unsuccessful.

Today, Thursday, 9 December, both men were formally charged with Being Concerned in the Importation of Ganja and Illegal Landing and will appear before the Summary Court later today.
