National Hurricane Search & Rescue Emergency Support Team Seeks Small Boat Owner Volunteers

1st August, 2019 Police Headlines

The Search & Rescue EST is seeking to register the details of all small boat owners who would be willing to assist in the aftermath of a hurricane or other national disaster.

“Having this list is an essential part of our preparations for potential national disasters,” said RCIPS Acting Superintendent Brad Ebanks, who oversees the Joint Marine Unit. “This information will make it that much easier for us to coordinate volunteers in a timely manner, in a situation where time will undoubtedly be of the essence.”

Eligible types of boats include open aluminum and fiberglass boats of up to 16 feet in length, dinghies, wave runners, and kayaks. Volunteers will receive compensation for any fuel used during rescues.

To sign up, simply contact the RCIPS at 649-7710 any time between 6:30AM and 2:00PM on weekdays, or email Oleta.Elliot@rcips.ky.
