Local Auxiliary Constable Recruitment 2026

 

The RCIPS is now recruiting locally for the position of Auxiliary Constable.

Are you between 18 and 40 years old and interested in serving your community within a disciplined and professional organisation? The Royal Cayman Islands Police Service (RCIPS) invites applications for the position of Auxiliary Constable.

 

This role offers the opportunity to contribute directly to public safety while gaining valuable experience in law enforcement. Auxiliary Constables provide essential support across detention and judicial operations, patrol duties, incident response, and investigative support, playing a key role in maintaining community safety and security.

 

We are seeking motivated individuals who demonstrate professionalism, integrity, accountability, and teamwork, and who are committed to public service. Successful candidates will benefit from structured training and development, providing a solid foundation for a rewarding career within the RCIPS and the wider public service.

 

To be considered for this position, applicants must meet the following requirements:

 

  • Preference will be given to suitably qualified Caymanians; however, applications are not limited to Caymanians.
  • Possess at least a High School Diploma or a General Education Development (GED) certificate from an accredited institution.
  • Have a minimum of five (5) CXC passes or equivalent qualifications, including at least two (2) in English and Mathematics.
  • Proficient in computer use and basic software applications
  • Be physically fit.

 

If selected, new recruits will have twenty-two (22) weeks of initial training before deployment under the direction of a tutor. Thereafter, they must successfully complete a two (2) year probation period.

Pay & Benefits

 

Pay

•Starting salary of Grade M and Point 2, CI$48,096.00 per annum

•A housing allowance of CI$200.00 per month, totaling CI$2,400.00 per annum.

•On promotion to the next police rank – sergeant – you can earn over CIG Salary Scale Grade L and Point 2, CI$53,616.00 per annum. Most officers apply for sergeant after a minimum of three years of service as a constable, with at least the last two years of unbroken service within the RCIPS.

 

Annual Leave

•165 hours paid leave each year (equivalent to 22 days)

•public holidays and rest days, on top of leave, are built into your shift pattern

•special leave, both paid and unpaid

Pension

•As a member of the Police Pension Scheme, your final average pensionable earnings will include your final month’s basic salary, plus the average of your last thirty-six month’s acting or duty allowances, plus your final month’s housing allowance (per the https://www.pspb.ky/important-terms)

•Contributions totaling 12% of your pensionable pay to the plan, each pay period, covering both the employer (6%) and employee (6%) portions, without deduction from pay

The RCIPS seeks to promote from within and enable its young officers through training and guidance to find the type of policing career that suits their skills and interests best.  Local officers can be found throughout each and every branch and unit of the service, from uniform operations to criminal investigations to specialist roles.

 

The RCIPS policies on recruitment have changed from previous years. All applications that were received prior to this recruitment drive have become null and void. Requirements:

 

The minimum qualifications for the position of local police constable are as follows:

•Applicants should be Caymanian (as defined under the Cayman Islands Immigration Act) or Permanent Resident (with the right to work without restrictions); 

•Be between 18 and 40 years old;

•Hold a minimum of a High School Diploma or a General Education Degree (GED) from an accredited institution with a minimum of five (5) CXC passes or equivalent, two (2) of which should be in English and Mathematics.

Post-Secondary Policing Education Scholarship Opportunity

 

The Royal Cayman Islands Police Service is pleased to highlight an exciting post-secondary scholarship opportunity for Caymanian students who are interested in a professional career in policing and public service.

 

Through the Government Scholarship Programme and the RCIPS, eligible Caymanian students may apply for funding to pursue a BSc (Hons) Professional Policing degree at the University of Portsmouth in Portsmouth, England. This programme provides a recognised academic pathway aligned with modern policing standards, and success in the programme will lead directly to a policing career with the RCIPS.

 

“RCIPS are proud to announce this partnership with Portsmouth University who offer a world class policing degree which will equip successful graduates with highly sought-after policing skills,” says Assistant Commissioner Rob Atkin MBE. “Successful acceptance on this programme will enable participants to work closely with RCIPS whilst studying, receiving mentorship and support throughout the 3-year programme.  At the conclusion of the degree students will be able to join RCIPS in a full-time capacity as police officers.”

 

In order to take advantage of this opportunity, potential students will need to meet the eligibility requirements to apply and be accepted to the University of Portsmouth and meet the eligibility requirements for an Overseas Post-Secondary Government Scholarship, with a deadline of 31 January.

 

The University of Portsmouth entry requirements typically include:

112–120 UCAS tariff points (or equivalent)

A-Level range normally BBB–BBC (or equivalent qualifications)

English language proficiency where applicable

 

Overseas Government Scholarship requirements include:

Caymanian status/Right to be Caymanian

Residency

Good character

Proof of acceptance from the institution
