On Tuesday, 9 August, as a result of police enquiries, RCIPS officers from the Firearms Response Unit, Criminal Investigations Department and Crime Scene Investigation Unit, conducted a search of an area of public land off Shamrock Road, in the Spotts area. During the search, officers recovered a Remington shotgun and three cartridge cases which have since been confirmed as stolen during a burglary in North Side last month. No arrests have been made, however enquiries continue to identify the person(s) involved.
Initial Release (6 July):
Shortly after 1:40PM yesterday, 5 July, officers responded to a report of a burglary at an address on North Side Road. It was reported that someone had broken into a residence and stolen a brown and black Remington 870 12 gauge shotgun, belonging to a licensed firearm owner, sometime between 7:30PM on Monday, 4 July, and 1:30PM on Tuesday, 5 July.
“The theft of a firearm in this manner is extremely concerning, as it can potentially be used in illegal activity and presents an additional danger to the public,” says Superintendent Peter Lansdown. “We strongly appeal for anyone who may have knowledge of this weapon being sold or stored by anyone to come forward and provide information immediately.”
The matter is currently under investigation and anyone with any information is asked to contact Bodden Town CID at 947-2220.
