UPDATE: Driver Arrested for Causing Death by Dangerous Driving in Fatal Collision, 11 August

Update (11 August):

 

Yesterday, Wednesday 10 August, a 39-year-old female, of George Town was arrested on suspicion of Causing Death by Dangerous Driving in relation to the fatal collision that resulted in the death of 20-year-old Aleiny Reve Villegas.

 

Regarding the two other passengers of the vehicle, one has since been discharged from hospital and one remains in hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries.

 


Update (10 August):

 

Police can confirm the identity of the deceased in the fatal collision which occurred on Monday, 8 August, on Eastern Avenue. She is 20-year-old Aleiny Reve Villegas, a Cuban national residing in Cayman.

 

The RCIPS expresses condolences to the family of the deceased.

 

The other three persons involved in the collision remain in hospital in stable condition.

 

The matter remains under investigation and police continue to appeal for witnesses. Police are particularly interested in speaking to the driver of a small sedan who may have witnessed the collision. CCTV footage shows that this vehicle was passed by the Honda Accord just before the collision occurred. After the collision, the driver parked nearby and ran to assist, and was the first person on the scene. The driver is asked to contact PC 244 Jameson of the Traffic & Roads Policing Unit at 939-5722.

 


Initial Release (8 August):

Police are currently on the scene of a fatal single-vehicle collision which occurred this morning, 8 August, shortly before 3:40AM, on Eastern Avenue near Shedden Road, involving a white Honda Accord with four occupants. One woman, age 20, has been pronounced dead, while the other three occupants were injured, with two in serious condition.

 

The south end of Eastern Avenue, between Shedden Road and Champion House Restaurant, was temporarily closed but has now been reopened.

 

The matter is under investigation and anyone who may have witnessed the incident or have any information is encouraged to call the Traffic and Roads Policing Unit at 649-6254 or the George Town Police Station at 949-4222.
