Police Renew Appeal for Witnesses in West Bay Shooting Incident, 7 October

Update (7 October):

Police continue to appeal for persons who may have witnessed the shooting incident which occurred just before 12:15AM on Saturday, 29 September, in the Birch Tree Hill area of West Bay. It was reported that several shots were fired at an address in the area and one man received a gunshot wound to the leg. He has since been discharged from hospital. Additionally, a dog that was in the yard was also shot and killed during the incident.

 

The incident remains under investigation by the Criminal Investigations Department within the RCIPS. Anyone with information, especially those who were witnesses, are asked to contact the George Town CID at 949-4222.

Update (4 October):

One of the men, age 31 of George Town, who was arrested on Sunday, 2 October, has been formally charged with Possession of a Controlled Drug (MDMA), as well as Possession of an Imitation Firearm with Intent to Commit an Offense in relation to a previous incident.

 

The second man arrested on 2 October, age 28 of Bodden Town, has been formally charged with Possession of a Controlled Drug (Cocaine).

 

Both men appeared in court today, 4 October. The Bodden Town man was granted bail with strict conditions, while the George Town man was remanded in custody pending a further appearance on 12 October.

 


Update (3 October):

Yesterday, 2 October, RCIPS officers arrested two men on suspicion of attempted murder and possession of an unlicensed firearm, in relation to the shooting incident which occurred in West Bay on the morning of Thursday, 29 September.

 

One of the men, age 31 of George Town, was further arrested for possession of ecstasy.

 

Police conducted further searches of the residences of the men, and recovered a quantity of cocaine at the address of the second man, age 28 of Bodden Town, who was further arrested on suspicion of possession of cocaine.

 

Both men remain in custody as investigations continue.

 


Initial Release (29 September):

Just before 12:15AM today 29 September, police and other emergency services were dispatched by the 9-1-1 Communication Centre to a report of shots fired in the Birch Tree Hill area of West Bay. It was reported that several shots were fired at an address in the area and one man received a gunshot wound to the leg. Additionally, a dog that was in the yard was also shot and killed during the incident.

 

The injured man was transported to the hospital by private car where he is being treated for what is believed to be a non-life-threatening injury. Firearm Response Unit officers attended the location and after carrying out a throughout search of the area, declared the location safe for investigators to attend. No other persons reported injuries as a result of this incident.

 

This firearm incident is being investigated by the Criminal Investigations Department and anyone with information is encouraged to call the West  Bay Police Station at 949-3999.
