UPDATE: Two Men Charged for Murder of Sven Connor, 23 January

UPDATE (23 January):

A man, age 29 of George Town, has been formally charged with the murder of Sven Connor, in a shooting which occurred on 7 December, 2023.

 

He appears in court this morning, 23 January.

 

A murder charge for the incident has also been filed against a second man, age 33 of Bodden Town, who remains in HMP Northward in relation to other matters.

 


UPDATE (10 December):

Yesterday, 9 December, a man, age 27 of East End, was arrested on suspicion of murder in relation to the fatal shooting of Sven Brett Connor on Thursday, 7 December.

 

He remains in custody as investigations continue.

 


Update (9 December):

Police can now confirm the identity of the victim of the fatal shooting which took place in East End on Thursday, 7 December. He is 42-year-old Sven Brett Connor of East End.

 

The RCIPS expresses condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.

 

Investigations into the incident continue, and anyone with information is encouraged to call the Major Incident Room at 649-2930.

Initial Release (8 December):

Just before 10PM yesterday, 7 December, police and other emergency services were dispatched by the 9-1-1 Communication Centre to a report of shots fired in the district of East End. It was reported that the shots were being fired at a residence located off Sea View Road.

 

Firearm and other uniform officers attended the location and entered the residence.  A man was found unresponsive inside the residence and had what appeared to be multiple gunshot wounds.  A doctor attended the scene where he pronounced the victim deceased.

 

A crime scene has been established at the residence and searches of the area were carried out, however, no suspects were located at the time. Additional daylight searches and examinations are being carried out today, 8 December, and police are advising persons to respect the cordon, and stay clear of the scene while officers are carrying out their investigations.

 

The incident is being investigated by the Criminal Investigation Department and detectives are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information about the incident to urgently come forward.  Anyone with information is encouraged to call the Major Incident Room at 649-2930.

 

“We had previously increased our presence across the Cayman Islands in light of the holiday period, including the district of East End. Last night’s incident will be met with a commensurate presence to ensure that the community can go about their daily lives without fear,” says Chief Superintendent Brad Ebanks. “Our officers are working diligently to find who is responsible in this matter. We encourage the community to work with us, in support of bringing the perpetrators to justice and ensuring the safety of the public.”
