26th June, 2023 Police Headlines

Police have responded to multiple reports of drugs being washed ashore in the Cayman Islands over the past several weeks. There have been six recent reports of persons finding packages containing suspected cocaine on the shoreline in all three islands. The first three involved single packages of about 1kg each, and occurred on 22 and 25 May in Little Cayman, and on 5 June in Cayman Brac. On Monday, 12 June, 18 packages, weighing approximately 1kg each, were discovered in Bodden Town. On the same day, 25 similar packages were discovered in Little Cayman.

On Wednesday morning, 21 June, a further 22 packages, weighing approximately 22kg, were found on the shoreline in Cayman Brac.

All of the suspected cocaine in these findings, totaling approximately 68kg, has been forensically recovered by police and scheduled for destruction.

The RCIPS extends thanks to the members of the public who did the right thing and reported these findings. We are also reminding the public to contact 9-1-1 immediately if you come across cocaine or any other illegal drugs, or goods that appear suspicious, as handling these goods puts you at risk of being found criminally liable.
