Shortly after 12:00AM on Monday, 8 June, police and other emergency services were dispatched by the 9-1-1 Communications Centre to a report of a two-vehicle collision involving a Kia Sportage and a Toyota Corolla on South Church Street in George Town.
Upon arrival, officers observed both vehicles with extensive damage.
The driver of the Kia Sportage was trapped inside the vehicle and was assisted from the vehicle by emergency services, and subsequently transported to the Anthony S. Eden Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the Toyota Corolla attempted to flee the scene but was subsequently located nearby and arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and other traffic offences, following a breath test with a result of over twice the legal limit.
The collision remains under investigation by the Traffic and Roads Policing Unit.
In addition, police have noted a high volume of motor vehicle collisions on the section of South Church Street between Clayton Drive and Denham Thompson Way. These concerns have been raised with our partner agency, the National Roads Authority, with a view to identifying and implementing adjustments that may help to alleviate these issues.
