Beat 6 - Prospect

PC Christopher Donaldson is a consummate community police officer with several years of policing experience. He has extensive training in the field, having participated in several community-based policing training courses and activities.

The Prospect and Red Bay Community Group, which is a vibrant group of community volunteers that want to see better for their communities, work closely with their beat officer to make their community safer. The police have joined in doing community clean up activities with the community group, as well as church groups and other volunteer groups. PC Donaldson, whilst on patrol in his beat, saw an elderly lady painting her house, stopped and offered his help. He has also worked along with the DEH to remove derelict vehicles which posed health and safety hazards from the community. The officer has also investigated and located persons who would have parked their vehicles on private and Government property to advertise for sale, in order to have the vehicles removed.

PC Donaldson engages in community service activities and employs the assistance of other officers where neccessary. With the assistance PC 421 Morgan, he  constructed new steps on an elderly lady's house to replace the makeshift cinder blocks which she had in place, as they were far too dangerous for someone of her age to manuever.  PC Donaldson often times attends meetings with parents, students and school administrators to address anti-social issues displayed by students of the Red Bay Primary School. He also attends Careers Day activity; at the Prospect Primary School to represent the RCIPS as a career to students he also attends PTA meetings, Heritage Day activities and walks against cancer.

PC Donaldson, in his role as a beat officer, encourages community members to be security conscious, hence he has partnered with community members of Windswept Drive to launch a Neighbourhood Watch in that community. Officer Donaldson at times also assisted in delivering meals for elderly persons in his beat which are provided by Meals on Wheels. Each time a community member reports an incident in beat 6 for officers to attend he follows up and  provides them with timely feedback.

Recently the Community Emergency Response Team (C.E.R.T), which consists of the community group executive members, purchased several thousand small battery operated home alarm systems which are currently being issued to members of the beat area. PC Donaldson visited the home of several elderly residents and installed their alarms. The officer also attends community meetings once per month which he uses as a medium to update community members on various topics.

Officer Donaldson also prepared several home safety tips cards and vehicle safety tips cards and issued them to members of the community to enhance their security.  Police youth relations is big on the agenda of the RCIPS hence PC Donaldson works closely with youth. He often visits the Black Pearl Skate Park with youths that attends the skate initiative. PC Donaldson works closely with the two MLAs that represent the residents in his beat; He is assisted at times by AC Green.  PC Donaldson also assists with traffic management in his beat along with members of the RCIPS Traffic Management Unit.
