RCIPS Senior Officers Complete Executive Leaders Programme, 18 August

The Royal Cayman Islands Police Service continues its commitment to upskilling staff in order to enhance capabilities and ensure operational continuity, as two senior officers complete the UK College of Policing’s flagship Executive Leaders Programme (ELP).

 

Chief Superintendent Brad Ebanks and Superintendent Roje Williams graduated from the intensive 19-week programme last month, and have since returned to the Cayman Islands, putting the knowledge gained to use in their respective roles.

 

The ELP is executed in three modules, focused on organizational leadership, personal and inclusive leadership, and operational leadership, with the overarching goal of enabling participants to deliver better policing for their communities.

 

“I am very grateful to the opportunity to have participated in this programme,” says Chief Superintendent Ebanks. “It was a very rewarding experience that has given me additional tools to be a more effective leader within the service, and to better serve my community.”

 

Superintendent Williams spoke about the wide range of particpants in the programme, saying, “It was very enlightening to work alongside high-level officers from policing organisations across the UK and internationally, including the National Crime Agency and Home Office, and officers from our fellow Caribbean island of Barbados. One of the most valuable parts of the course was being able to share knowledge and experience with each other.”

 

The ELP is designed to prepare the next generation of leaders, which Commissioner of Police Kurt Walton, believes is an important part of ensuring the continued ability of the RCIPS to keep our communities safe.

 

“We believe that training is important,” says Commissioner Walton. “We must allow our staff to continue to develop in the roles they hold, and potentially prepare them for new roles as well. This way we ensure that succession planning is not just a buzzword, but something that is a core part of what we do. The College of Policing is the UK’s leading institution for police training, and we are working with them on a number of initiatives to continue to enhance the skills, knowledge, and operational capabilities of our staff, and the service as a whole.”
