Last month, the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service (RCIPS) hosted and delivered an international-level investigative training course in the Cayman Islands.
The RCIPS, in partnership with the International Policing Assistance Service (IPAS) and the UK College of Policing, successfully delivered the Senior Investigating Officer (SIO) OTIP 3 Course, reinforcing its commitment to developing high-level investigative leadership across the British Overseas Territories. The course was held from 2 to 20 March 2026.
Twenty-two officers from the Cayman Islands, Anguilla, and the British Virgin Islands undertook the intensive three-week programme, widely regarded as one of the most prestigious investigative leadership courses in the United Kingdom. Delivered in partnership with the College of Policing, the course focused on enhancing the strategic thinking, decision-making, and leadership capabilities required to lead complex and serious crime investigations.
Throughout the programme, participants engaged in scenario-based learning, critical incident management exercises, and advanced investigative practices aligned with internationally recognised policing standards. The course forms part of the RCIPS’ broader strategy to professionalise policing and ensure officers are equipped to meet the demands of modern law enforcement.
Participants were presented with certificates from the College of Policing during a formal closing ceremony, recognising their achievement and commitment to professional excellence. This training forms part of the RCIPS’s continuous training and development programme and will be followed by additional courses to further support and build on this accreditation.
Chief Inspector Wade Chase, Head of the Training and Development Unit, highlighted the importance of the initiative:
“This programme represents a significant step forward in strengthening investigative capability across the British Overseas Territories. By investing in our people and working alongside trusted partners such as the College of Policing, we are ensuring that our officers are prepared to lead complex investigations with professionalism, confidence, and integrity. This is essential to delivering justice for victims and maintaining public trust.”
The RCIPS continues to prioritise collaboration with regional and international partners to deliver high-quality training opportunities that enhance operational effectiveness and contribute to safer communities.
