For a better experience on RCIPS, UPDATE YOUR BROWSER. Investigations continue into the robbery which occurred at a jewellery store on North Church Street yesterday, Monday, 20 April. Today, 21 April, officers attended the Owen Roberts International Airport and arrested a third man, who was attempting to leave the country, on suspicion of robbery in relation to the incident.
The man, age 29 residing in George Town, remains in custody as investigations continue.
Two Men Arrested and Firearm Recovered Following Robbery on Waterfront, 21 April
Shortly before 12:00 PM on Monday, 20 April, officers were dispatched by the 9-1-1 Communications Centre to a report of a robbery at a jewellery store on Seafarers Way in George Town. It was reported that two masked men had entered the business, brandishing a baseball bat and what appeared to be a firearm. The men smashed several display cases and removed jewellery, then fled the location, running to a vehicle. No shots were fired and no one was injured during the incident.
Officers quickly identified a vehicle matching the description of the vehicle used by the suspects & began to follow it. One man fled the vehicle in the vicinity of Shedden Road and North Sound Road. The vehicle then travelled towards West Bay and was stopped by police on Willie Farrington Drive. Two occupants, men aged 25 and 18, were arrested on suspicion of robbery. The third male who alighted at Shedden Road is actively being sought.
Police conducted searches in the area where the missing man had fled and recovered jewellery suspected to have been taken during the robbery. Police conducted further searches and recovered one handgun, suspected to have been used during the robbery.
