Just after midday yesterday, 16 July, the Cayman Islands Coast Guard (CICG) and the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service (RCIPS) conducted a joint operation to apprehend a vessel suspected of engaging in illicit maritime activities.
The vessel was located and monitored by the police helicopter, and the men were observed offloading packages believed to contain ganja.
The CICG caused the vessel to stop, and two men, ages 33 and 44, both of West Bay, were arrested on suspicion of being concerned with the importation of ganja and other drug-related offences. The men were handed over to the police and currently remain in custody pending further investigation.
The packages that were offloaded were recovered from the water, and after an initial assessment, amount to over 400 lbs of ganja.
This incident is being investigated by the police, and anyone with information is encouraged to call the Bodden Town Police Station at 947-2220.
