On Saturday, 3 January, 2026 at approximately 4:05PM, the Cayman Islands Coast Guard Operations and Rescue Coordination Centre (ORCC) received a report of a person who had failed to resurface, having entered the water in the vicinity of “Big Channel” near to Barkers Key.
The CICG Duty team immediately responded, and upon arrival commenced in-water search efforts to locate the missing person.
During the search, an individual fitting the description of the missing person was located and taken onboard the Patrol vessel, where lifesaving efforts, including CPR, were administered. The individual was transported to Scotts Landing where he was transferred to EMS personnel, who then transported him to George Town Hospital.
The individual, a man age 42 of West Bay, was later pronounced deceased by the attending physician. The RCIPS and CICG express condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.
