UPDATE: Police Identify Deceased in East End Water-Related Death, 22 June

Update (23 June):

Police can now confirm the identity of the man who was found deceased yesterday, 21 June, in East End, after having been reported missing the previous day. He is 54-year-old Jason Douglas Brant, a visitor from Colorado in the United States.

 

The RCIPS expresses condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.

Initial Release (21 June):

At about 4:00PM yesterday, 20 June, officers responded to a report of a missing person in East End. It was reported that a man had gone out snorkeling a few hours earlier in the waters in the vicinity of the Wyndham Reef Resort, off Austin Connolly Drive, but had not been seen since. Cayman Islands Coast Guard vessels and the RCIPS helicopter were deployed to conduct searches of the water nearby, while RCIPS officers conducted searches on land and along the shoreline. In addition, members of the public assisted with the shoreline searches, while visiting members of the Royal National Lifeboat Institution assisted the Coast Guard with searches at sea and the overall coordination of search efforts.

 

The searches continued until just before 7:00PM with negative result, and resumed at 5:00AM this morning, 21 June.

 

Shortly before 8:00AM this morning a man was found unresponsive on the shore off the Queen’s Highway in East End. Emergency services attended the location and he was subsequently pronounced dead. He has been identified as the man, age 54 of the US, who was reported missing the previous day.

 

The matter is under investigation.
