UPDATE: Police Confirm Identity of Victim in Water-Related Death, 31 October

Update (31 October):

Police can now confirm the identity of the deceased in the water-related death which occurred on Saturday, 21 October. He is 27-year-old Raheem Tyrike Barrett, a Jamaican national residing in the Cayman Islands.

 

The RCIPS expresses condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.

 


Update (25 October):

 

The victim in the water-related death which occurred on Saturday, 21 October, has now been positively identified by a family member. The man, age 27, is a Jamaican national, residing in the Cayman Islands.

 


Initial Release (22 October):

Shortly before 11:15PM yesterday, 21 October, the 911 Communications Centre received a report of a possible person in distress in the waters off Seafarers Way, George Town. Port Authority staff at the location had seen what appeared to be a person in the water. Police and Fire officers attended the location and conducted a search, during which fire officers located and retrieved an unresponsive man from the water. Emergency medical services arrived and transported the man to the Cayman Islands Hospital, where he was subsequently pronounced dead.

 

Efforts are currently underway to ascertain the identity of the man.
