For a better experience on RCIPS, UPDATE YOUR BROWSER. Just before 11:00AM on Thursday, 9 July, police and other emergency services responded to a report of a person in distress in the water off South Church Street.
It was reported that a man, visiting the island on a cruise ship, had gone snorkeling and was observed experiencing physical difficulties before becoming unconscious in the water. The man was pulled from the water, and chest compressions were administered by members of the public. EMS provided further medical assistance before he was transported to the hospital.
He was later pronounced deceased.
The man, age 71, is a visitor from the United States of America.
