UPDATE: Man Found Unresponsive on North Church Street This Morning, 15 April

Update (17 April):

The 28-year-old man of George Town who was arrested on 15 April in connection with this fatal accident has now been charged with the following:

-Causing Death by Dangerous Driving

-Driving Whilst Disqualified

-Unlawful Use of a Vehicle

-Using an Unlicensed Vehicle

-Using an Uninspected Vehicle.

The man will be in court this morning, 17 April.


Update (16 April):

Police can now confirm the identity of the victim of the fatal traffic collision which occurred yesterday morning, 15 April. He is 21-year-old Ignacio Kirzner, an Argentinian national living in Cayman.


The RCIPS extends condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.

UPDATE: Arrest Made - 9:30AM

Just after 5:45AM today, police arrested a 28-year-old-man on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, driving a vehicle whilst disqualified, driving a vehicle without insurance and leaving the scene of an accident.


The man was taken into custody where he is being held pending further investigations by the Traffic and Roads Policing Unit.


The victim in this incident is from Off-Island and his identity will not be released at this time to provide officers time to contact his family. The media is asked to also delay publication of his identity untill we indicate this has been done.


The roadway is still blocked for investigative purposes at this time.



Just before 5:30AM the 9-1-1 Communications center dispatched fire and emergency services to a report a male cyclist found unresponsive on North Church Street in the vicinity of Coral Sands.  The man was located and appeared to have been struck by a vehicle; he was taken to hospital where he has been pronounced dead.

Police have closed the road to conduct a full investigation. Traffic is being diverted at Bodden Road and Eastern Avenue.  Only the Eastern Avenue entrance to Kirk Market is currently open. 

The road is expected to remain closed throughout the morning peak commute period.
