The RCIPS Cyber Crime team have been made aware of a scam targeting the Cayman Islands, which advertises a new online C5 Immigration and Customs form for a Jamaican visa at a significantly reduced fee. This is a scam and using this page will not only result in you losing your money, you will also not receive a valid C5 visa.
RCIPS is aware of an email scam targeting candw.ky customers; but there may be other email accounts targeted. The email claims to be a news update from local media house, Cayman News Service.
The RCIPS cybercrime team are aware of a significant increase of QR code scams. QR codes are a type of barcode, or scannable pattern, that contain various forms of data, like website links.
RCIPS has received reports that local banking customers have received SMS messages claiming to be from their bank. Customers are then encouraged to contact the fraudulent number provided in the message.
The RCIPS are becoming increasingly concerned at the level of sophistication used by International fraudsters targeting businesses in the Cayman Islands through the use of Business Email Compromise or BEC Frauds.
RCIPS Cyber Crime Unit has become aware of a phishing email and SMS campaign circulating the Cayman Islands purporting to be from UPS. The email and SMS appear legitimate, seeking clarification of shipping address details, and featuring a link that opens to a web portal made to look like UPS.
RCIPS has received reports that local banking customers have received calls from individuals claiming to be from their bank. Customers are then encouraged to return the call and provide their banking details.
