The Royal Cayman Islands Police Service (RCIPS) is investigating an ongoing phishing scam involving fraudulent text messages claiming to be from RCIPS regarding overdue traffic fines.
A man, age 30 of George Town, was sentenced on Thursday, 6 August, after being convicted of the murder of a 56-year-old man in December 2024.
On Wednesday, 5 August, RCIPS officers, supported by representatives from the Department of Environmental Health (DEH), conducted a Day of Action operation in the Walters Road area of George Town.
Police are investigating reports of a scam that involves individuals posing as used-car dealers.
Shortly after 9:00PM on Saturday, 1 August, officers on patrol along the Esterley Tibbetts Highway came upon a single-vehicle collision in the vicinity of Lakeside Condos. The driver was treated for what appeared to be non-life-threatening injuries, and subsequently discharged. The driver was arrested on suspicion of DUI.
Her Excellency the Governor has announced the appointment of Mr. Robert Atkin MBE as the new Deputy Commissioner of Police of the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service (RCIPS). Mr. Brad Ebanks has been appointed as Acting Assistant Commissioner of Police. Both officers took up their new positions on 1 August.
