Police are investigating a number of incidents in recent weeks, where vehicle windows have been smashed and items stolen. Commonly stolen items include tools, electronics and money. Many incidents are opportunistic, where thieves have taken advantage of access to unlocked vehicles.
Police continue to receive reports of theft of construction tools from vehicles, work sites and private properties. Investigations into these reports have revealed that, in many cases, tools have not been marked by the owners. Police encourage owners to mark their tools with permanent identifying marks. Police have arrested 26-year-old Malik Joseph McDonald, who was recently circulated as wanted in relation to firearms offences. He remains in custody as investigations continue.
Today, Friday 14 April, the RCIPS released its 2022 Crime and Traffic Statistics Report, and members of the Senior Command Team held a press conference to discuss the main developments and trends described in the statistics with the media.
Over this past weekend, 7-10 April, the RCIPS conducted its yearly Easter operations across the island. During this time there were no major incidents of violent crime and no major traffic collisions. There were also no reports of trespass or theft related to persons camping over the weekend.
