Shortly after 4:30AM today, 2 September, officers responded to a report of shots fired at an address on Eastern Avenue, near the intersection with Godfrey Nixon Way. Officers attended the location and recovered a component of a firearm, which was taken to be forensically processed.
The RCIPS Financial Crime Investigation Unit is investigating reports of persons attempting to unlawfully obtain funds by authorizing fraudulent transactions via email. Persons are advised to take precautions in order to avoid falling victim to this type of fraud.
Police are currently investigating a number of reports where persons attempted to use forged $100 bank notes. Since June 2022, five such reports have been received, with one incident taking place in Cayman Brac and the other four in Grand Cayman.
The RCIPS Financial Crime Investigation Unit are currently investigating an incident involving counterfeit notes and advise the public to be on the lookout for such counterfeit notes, as there are suspected to be additional notes in circulation. The counterfeit notes are all KYD $100 notes bearing the serial number 292395.
Police have received reports from persons who have attempted to purchase a black Honda Fit, registration #189-455 from a man offering it ‘for sale’. These persons have paid over money as a deposit or full payment but have not received delivery of the car in return.
The RCIPS is aware of an e-mail message currently circulating, which purports to be from the Cayman Islands Bureau of Financial Investigation. This e-mail was sent from the address rcips@rcips[.]com. This is not a legitimate e-mail address or domain associated with the RCIPS.
