Earlier this afternoon, 25 September, an RCIPS school resource officer at the Clifton Hunter High School was alerted to a report that an illegal weapon had allegedly been seen in the possession of a student there.
Another police officer has been assaulted by a member of the public during a police interaction in the early morning. The man was arrested and is currently in custody pending further investigation.
Shortly before 11:00PM on Sunday, 24 August, the 9-1-1 Communications Centre dispatched officers to a report of a robbery which was said to have occurred at about 9:00PM the same night at Rum Point beach.
Over the past two weekends there have been multiple incidents where police officers were assaulted during the execution of their duties.
The RCIPS has noted an increase in the number of stolen vehicle reports since the beginning of July, with 18 reports received over the course of the month, including attempted vehicle thefts.
RCIPS Welfare Chairman represents the Cayman Islands at the Caribbean Federation of Police Welfare Association and is named 1st Vise President for the organisation.
The RCIPS has received reports of groups of young person’s riding their pedal cycles into oncoming traffic and stationary cars on the roadways, while pulling stunts, such as wheelies. This activity is believed to originate from of social media challenge, called “Swerving”.
Police seek the assistance of the public to locate missing teen girls Kayla James, Ashantie McLean, Tashaena Williams and Kayla Watson.
