On Friday September 18th, officers from the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service (RCIPS) Senior Command Team, including Commissioner of Police, Derek Byrne, met with representatives from the LGBTQ+ community, including Colours Cayman and Cayman LGBTQ Foundation to discuss concerns affecting the LGBTQ+ Community.

Man Charged Following Assault in George Town, 8 September

8th September, 2020

Shortly before 6:00AM on Sunday, 6 September, officers responded to a report of an assault at an address near the junction of West Bay Road and Eastern Avenue in George Town. A man, age 24 of George Town, has been formally charged with Wounding, Common Assault, and Damage to Property, in relation to the incident.

The RCIPS is increasingly concerned with the number of violent crimes involving bladed weapons that have occurred over the past month on Grand Cayman. We want to caution the public that it is illegal for any person to carry concealed weapons including knives, which is a serious criminal offense.

UPDATE: Man Charged with Murder in Fatal Stabbing Incident at the Strand, 3 September

3rd September, 2020

Just after 3:30AM today, police and other emergency services were dispatched by the 9-1-1 Communications Centre to a report of a stabbing incident that took place at the at a night club located at the Strand on Canal Point Road. A man, age 27 of George Town, has now been formally charged with murder in relation to the incident.

A man, age 28 of George Town, has been formally charged with Wounding in relation to an assault on Canal Point Road, on the morning of Saturday, 29 August, which took place shortly before the fatal stabbing which occurred the same morning.

Police Appeal for Witnesses in Fatal Stabbing Investigation, 31 August

31st August, 2020

Police can now confirm the identity of the victim in the fatal stabbing which occurred at the Strand on Canal Point Road, on Saturday morning, 29 August. He is Recordo Lionel Pars, age 27 of George Town. Detectives are urgently appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident to come forward.

Attempted Robbery Incident in East End, 12 August

It was reported that a male wearing a dark coloured hoody and a black mask entered the Gas Station’s store with a hand gun and demanded cash, after which he discharged the weapon into the ceiling of the store and made off without any cash or items being stolen.
