The RCIPS continues to remind motorists to follow the rules of the road and avoid unsafe driving behaviours such as speeding. This past Sunday, 19 January, RCIPS officers observed three instances of particular note, where young persons were caught speeding excessively, and received stiff penalties as a result.

The RCIPS Holiday Safety Operation, Winter Guardian, came to a close on the morning of Monday, 6 January, following a major operation on New Year’s Eve into New Year’s Day. Additional Police officers were deployed and partners engaged for assistance in a robust road safety operation and to ensure community safety.
At approximately 10:24AM on Tuesday, 8 January, police and emergency services, including the Cayman Islands Fire Service, Emergency Medical Services and an explosives expert were dispatched by the 9-1-1 Communications Centre to investigate a report of a bomb threat at Grand Harbour Plaza.

This week, RCIPS officers responded to 36 MVAs, made 4 DUI arrests, and prosecuted 30 persons for various other driving offenses, as part of Operation Winter Guardian. The RCIPS reiterates appeals for persons to make safe driving decisions following two fatal collisions in one day period.

Shortly after 2:20AM today, 26 December, police and other emergency services responded to a report of a serious single-vehicle collision on Shamrock Road in the vicinity of Midway Close. One man has since been pronounced dead.
